Tokai Nature Trails

*Mt. Takao is the eastern starting point of the 1,697 km long Tokai Nature Trail

The long-distance Tokai Nature Trail connects the Meiji Memorial Forest Takao Quasi-National Park with the Meiji Memorial Forest Minoo Quasi-National Park in Osaka.

This 1,697.2 km-long trail traverses areas of great natural, historical, and cultural significance, and offers hikers the opportunity to refresh body and soul. Areas along the trail were selected based on their natural scenic beauty or their historical and cultural attractions that often tend to remain out of sight.

The trail extends over the eleven prefectures and municipalities of Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kanagawa, Yamanashi, Shizuoka, Aichi, Gifu, Mie, Shiga, and Nara, connecting the National Parks in various locations. In addition to places of natural beauty, hikers can visit historic battlefields and trails, sites of famous legends, and other reminders of Japan's rich cultural history. To walk the whole trail takes between 40 and 50 days.
