Lift History
| 1964 | Lift starts operating |
| 1971 | Two-seater lift starts operation |
The system started operating as a single seat lift in October 1964, the year of the Tokyo Olympics.
It underwent renovations in September 1971, and became a two-seater lift that uses a unique belt and a conveyor-type boarding and alighting device. The lift has since become one of Mt. Takao's main charms.
The lift with a total length of 872 meters takes about 12 minutes to ascend the station located halfway up the mountain. The splendid view of the Kitayamadai cedars below and the thrill of the steep gradient make the ride an unforgettable experience.
Camellias in early spring give way to dogwood and wild cherry flowers that bloom and scatter as the sunshine gets warmer. A little later in the year, travelers are greeted and refreshed by the early summer wind. In autumn, they can enjoy a comfortable skywalk overlooking the natural panorama of magnificent colors.
The lift is a popular attraction with all visitors to Mt. Takao - young and old.
